Accessing the HCTD Moodle

Information Officer's Notes

There hasn't been much activity on the HCTD Moodle learning environment yet, but the value of such an environment has already been demonstrated in a small way on an ECA Communication and Technology variant of the space, which has already been used to organize panels for the ECA annual convention. The Moodle is a secure and verified login environment that can be used to discuss anything that may be of interest to HCTD members. Moodle is a public domain alternative to Blackboard that make be interesting to some members as a classroom space for their teaching.

The current membership list of HCTD is now registered on the Moodle site so we can send you news and announcements. This replaces a mailing list that disappeared without a trace a few months ago. You have been given a userid and password based on your e-mail address. Your username is the user portion of your e-mail address with punctuation (e.g. "_", "-" and "." removed. Your password is the first portion of the URL portion of your e-mail address. The following table should provide a useful quick guide to figuring out your Moodle userid and password:

If your e-mail address looks like this:
Your Moodle username is:
And your Moodle password is:
yourid@school.edu
yourid
school
your.id@server.school.edu
yourid
server
your_id@yahoo.com
yourid
yahoo
your-id@school.ed.jp
yourid
school

That should cover all of the major possibilities. I have inserted name information as best I could based on the your e-mail addresses but encourage you to update your profiles with more accurate information.

If you have not been assigned an ID based on your HCTD membership, You can still use the HCTD moodle by registering, responding to an e-mail registration confirmation, and (when prompted) entering the key ("hctd5").

If you have an experimental space you'd like to open up to HCTD members, please let us know so we can let folks know about it.
